I got married. When I changed my registrant contact information they hijacked an account for 60 days. Fortunately, it was left over from student days and contained only one domain. Their justification is that their "policy" is to allow no transfers out for 60 days after a domain is renewed or a contact changed.
On hearing my tale of woe a number of folks suggested DynaDot as being responsive and willing to work with (not on) customers. I gather DynaDot is something of a botique for fairly sophisticated registrants and the terms of service, while unpleasant in parts, didn't contain utter lunacy like 60 day holds should the customer sneeze on Thursday...
So I'm giving Dynadot a try before I consider hauling the rest of my domains away from the clutches of the Dalton gang at WildWestDomains.
My advice FWIW, is let people know if Dynadot is busting its chops to be reasonable, will respect their privacy, cares about protecting customer identity, and if Dynadot will not hold their domains hostage except when expressly required to by ICAAN,INTERNIC or the courts. Dynadot may miss the first time registrant with that message, but it's sure to appeal to the seasoned registrant with more than a few domains.
"I had only an Unverified Paypal account and wanted to find a registrar who accepted payments from unverified Paypal accounts. A quick Google search returned your link in the "Sponsored Links" list."
I was looking for a non-hassling domain company under $10 (was previously using register.com and then switched to a poor customer service one whom I don't remeber their name).
I found it on a google adwords area I believe, while looking for reviews of various companies. The site design, flow, prices, and not being a reseller had me ready to sign up and transfer. When I had trouble transfering from the old place with crappy service, you guys helped me get it moved over with advice on what to do to get it released (this old company didn't want to allow me to transfer).
I really like how I'm not hassled to buy everything under the sun that is offered. I get emails about renewing my domain when it is ready to expire and new features directly related to my domain as they get added. Nothing else and I like it that way.
I found you through a reccomendation on theFanlistings.org board. I had a look, liked what I saw, and bought a domain. I have just bought my 10th and I'm very happy with your service.
Well, i wanted to get a domain some time ago, and I had enough for it in paypal, so i searched in paypals area for domain sellers, but GoDaddy makes you sign up for a reoccurring charge, which I couldn't do because i don't have a credit card. Tried out dynadot, and the one time payments worked great!
I switched to Dynadot because of a myriad of issues with 1and1.com (not uncommon apparently).
Thanks for your prompt service. Your domain control panel is very easy to use. I also like the fact that you don't try to sell me everything else in the world when I purchase a domain.
