DNS Capability Issue with Google Apps
1/14/2011 02:19
How can I set the NAME of my TXT record? I do not see this capability with Dynadot, and it is required by Google to use their DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) protocol.

Instructions from Google Apps:

You must update the DNS records for this domain.
To start authenticating email for the domain selected above, enter the following DNS TXT record into your domain provider's DNS settings page. Then click "Start authentication."Back to basic setup
Generate new record
DNS Host name (TXT record name):
google._domainkey
TXT record value:
[removed for security]

After reviewing the instructions you provided by email, we believe you can use our DNS for what you need.  Looks like the issue was that you entered the full hostname in the subdomain box.  We've send more details in our reply to your email.

While the TXT record box has been used successfully by many Google Apps users, I'm not sure our current system will work for Amazon SES.  If the TXT record absolutely needs to be named, you may have to use a 3rd party DNS service for now.

I see to have same problem.

How do I create text record for Amazon SES
in the format:

Record Type:
TXT (Text)
TXT Name: _amazonses.example.com
TXT Value: *****/*****+*********=

This works for me:

Note:
Just put in the name in the subdomain box:
key1._domainkey

then in the "IP Address or Target Host" box put the actual public key record:

k=rsa; p=XYZ123...ABC

Update that and you should be good to go!

l_m_anchorage_us:

We provide a TXT record box on our DNS page, is that not enough to add Google's string?

Hello everyone,

We have added the capability to add TXT records to subdomains.  We know you have been asking if you can add a name to the main TXT record,  instead,  you can achieve the same effect for Google's DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) by adding a TXT record to a subdomain.

The subdomain would need to be google._domainkey, and the TXT record would be whatever TXT record value is provided by Google.

Let us know how this works out for you.

Best Regards,

I believe that there are many users who will use google apps and i am surpirsed that Dynadot doesn't allow for TXT records to be added in a way that most dns servers are used. Can there be a solution for this soon. Thanks.

Have you got any further with this?  We are also interested in setting up a Google DomainKeys Identified Mail protocol for our domains.
