I have paid for ssl certificate and was asked to generate my CSR but i dont have any idea from where to start from, please i need help in setting up my https

Hi, I tried to follow tomcat instructions to configure glassfish but I cannot get it done. browsers respond with ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR and weget response is GnuTLS: A TLS packet with unexpected length was received.
Unable to establish SSL connection. I imported alpha cert into the keystore and intermidiate cert into cacert store. should i convert alpha cert into another format before import it?
