Dynadot Forwarding Improvement
12/20/2006 22:49
For forwarding and stealth forwarding, we have added a new option to specify MX records for your domain. This way you can have Dynadot forward your domain web traffic, but have your email delivered directly to your email provider (Gmail, Yahoo mail, etc).

The previous email forwarding option is still supported as well.

The email aliases feature is in its testing phase at this point.  I apologize for the delay.

Update
We have now added email aliases to our system.  Please read "Email Aliases Added" for more information.

Unfortunately, that feature has been put on hold. I'm not sure when it will be implemented.

What's the latest on this improvement to email forwarding, allowing multiple aliases, not just the catch all?

We are actually working on this right now. It should be ready in about 3 months.

When will dynadot support multiple email aliases?
Having a single catch-all is a recipe for getting lots of spam,
and generally I need a small number of distinct forwards, such
as "info", "support", and "webmaster".
I'd prefer not have to go use another email ISP just for such simple cases.

This post will explain the difference between email forwarding, and MX records (email hosting).

With email forwarding, an email sent to:
 jim@mydomain.com
is delivered to Dynadot. We then resend it to:
 jim@gmail.com
When you reply to the email, the from field is:
 jim@gmail (not jim@mydomain.com)

With MX records (email hosting), an email sent to:
 jim@mydomain.com
is delivered directly to your mail host. When you reply the from field is:
 jim@mydomain.com
Thus your domain has a full fledged email address.
