My site still isn't showing - please advice
3/17/2008 13:55
Hi - I've purchased a new hosting account at Hostgator and changed the name servers of my domain (registered at Dynadot) to theirs. That is now more than 72 hours ago, and when I try to load my domain in my browser, I still see the 'cannot find server' message...

I had already added an addon domain to my new cPanel, and had already changed those name servers too. This last site was back online hours ago.

I contacted Hostgator about this, and they told me to turn to Dynadot to find out more. So, this is exactly what I'm doing ;o)

my domain = theonlinesellinggame.com

Greetz!

Hello,

Currently your domain name is pointing to the following Name Servers:

NS801.HOSTGATOR.COM
NS802.HOSTGATOR.COM

Both with the IP Addresses:

74.54.207.2
74.54.207.3

Both of the above IP Addresses belongs to HostGator and the domain seems to be parked at HostGator. Everything seems to be OK from Dynadot's side, If there is any more problem it may be from HostGator's end.

That happened when I added the IP to the box in the 'Advanvced Dynadot DNS Services' - part, like you guys told me to.

I've removed this IP address and set the nameservers back to Hostgator's. Now, we're back right where we started....

Hello

It seems that your Name Server setting is pointing to Dynadot instead of hostgator, You can find this by doing a simple whois lookup.

For information on how to change name servers please read this post:

and also:

" If you can access the site through the ip/~username that means it is created on the server. Since trying to perform a trace route gives no ip information found this indicates that it is the registrar."

I can indeed access the site through ip/~username

I've contacted Hostgator about it and this is what they tell me:

"DNS is set up correctly on our side. If you try to trace the domain name it does not go anywhere this indicates it is not set correctly at Dynadot"

We checked theonlinesellinggame.com, and it appears that your name servers are not responding to any web requests for theonlinesellinggame.com.  Could you check with Hostgator to see if they've configured their name servers to serve your domain?

You can see this yourself by performing an IP lookup:

How do I access the IP lookup tool?

To do an IP lookup, please follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to your Dynadot account.
  2. Select "My Domains" from the left-side menu bar and click "Manage Domains" in the drop-down.
  3. Find the domain name you want to check and click on the ellipsis next to the lock icon.
  4. Choose "ip lookup" from the list.
    • Your page should look like what is shown below:

  1. The IP lookup will load in a new browser tab.
From Help Section: Account & Domain Management > How do I access the IP lookup tool?
