I have a domain where I want the website at one host, the email at another. I have the name servers set correctly for the website host, and the website appears.
I know the IP address for the email host. How do I set the email to go to this host?
My understanding is that this means setting an A record, and an MX record within that, but I'm not sure of the details -- exactly what fields I set, and how, and which ones I leave blank.
For example, I assume that Domain Record should be set to A.
But should "Specify a DNS record for your domain." be blank, since I've already set the name servers? Or does the A record replace the name servers? And if I do fill in this field, what do I put? There are two name servers for the website host, and only one field here.
Then what about TXT Record?
And what is this about, since I don't see any field for it: "If you enter MX records for your DNS here, you will need to make sure that the "Email Forwarding Settings" are set to the "Do not forward email." option first."
I need to know EXACTLY how to fill out the A record, so I don't mess up the website name servers when I set the email.
Since your domain is using 3rd party Name Servers, all of your email is configured through your web host. If they were able to provide you with an IP address to use instead of Name Servers, you could set up something like what you describe on our DNS page.
