Forgot to renew before initiating transfer

I'm an idiot. I knew I needed to renew my domain name before initiating transfer, and somehow forgot. Domain runs out tomorrow. What happens if the transfer hasn't completed by then? Will I lose my domain? Is there any process by which I can retrieve it?

Please keep in mind, we recommend initiating a transfer at least 2 weeks before a domain expires.
