Can I use nameservers to point my domain (thehockeynation.com) to a blog as well as use an A Record or CNAME to point to my forums (boards.thehockeynation.com) ?

Yes, you can set our name servers to point your domain to a blog and use an A Record or a CNAME record to point it to your forums by using our Advanced DNS Services. You will, however, need a web server with an IP address to correctly redirect all web requests to your domain to your blog or forums depending on which subdomain is visited.
