What are the "access level lock" details?
4/17/2009 05:09
This is really a query for the DynaDot folks who just announced our Domain accounts will be subject to something called the "access level lock."

I gather it has two features:

1) An unlocked domain will "re-lock" after about an hour; and,

2) a "user" must "authenticate" herself before an "unlock" will be permitted.

This does not make much sense to me for a few reasons:

1) If a domain relocks in an hour how can one permit a domain transfer?  Transfers take days, not minutes, and presumably the domain must be left unlocked to permit the transfer.

2) What does "authentication" entail?  Can groups of domains be unlocked with one "authentication"?  With well over 100 domains in my custody I'm concerned that domain by domain "authentications" could be come tedious time wasters.  Particularly if the "authentication" involves something radical like faxing a photo ID or one's dog's middle name.

I for one would sure like more details and perhaps the option of opting out if I believe the administrative costs will outweigh the security gains.

Regards, however, to the DynaDot folks for years of rational and reliable service.
