SSL (Alpha) Installation
8/28/2009 14:39
Hi,

I just bought an Alpha SSL but I need your help to install it.  I tried to find a support phone line or livechat but can't seem to locate them.  I am a new customer.

What do I do?  I'd like to get this up and need your guidance.

(Order 887777)

Thanks!
Anthony

For error:

xserv1.example.com:8443 uses an invalid security certificate.
The certificate is not trusted because it is self signed.
The certificate is only valid for plesk

I found this:

"This error pops up because you're using a 'self signed' SSL certificate for your website. This simply means that the SSL certificate that's encrypting your communication with the server is encrypted with was signed by us rather than by a commercial Certificate Authority like Thawte or Verisign. You can purchase a commercial SSL, which will eliminate this error."

But isn't AlphaSSL a commercial Certificate Authority?

I am beginning to wonder if I missed a step during the installation.  But I swear I followed everyting to the 'T'.

Also, I synced my servers and workstations clock's on our entire network with an Atomic Clock utility with 'time-nw.nist.gov' as the basis.  Still no luck.

I don't know if this helps, but I am also getting the same results using Firefox on CentOS 5.3, the same as with Windows XP Professional SP3.

Thanks

You don't need to buy one that includes the port number.  The URL worked in both Firefox and Safari as you typed it.  What error message are you seeing when you try to visit your page?

FYI, I can salvage the certificate I made for other uses.

But can you confirm that I need to buy another one which includes the port #?

Thanks,
Anthony

Should I just make another certificate and include the PORT number?

For the certificate I created I used:
'https://xserv1.example.com'  (This works)

But when I type in:

(This is where it errors out.)

Is it because I did not include the ':8443' port number in the URL in the submission for the certificate I created?

If that is the case, then the certy I made is useless to me.

Thanks,
Anthony

I tested that full URL with your domain and it appears to be working correctly.  I was taken to a Plesk log in page.
