Question about Domain Suspensions

Hello,

I am a new client with Dynadot and so far I am very thrilled with your service. This is by far, thus far, the best registrar I have ever used and I have used many.

However there is something that concerns me.

I read many reports about sites being shut down (here and in review forums, webmaster forums, etc) by Dynadot staff for complaints, spam mailings, copyright infringement, malware hosting etc.

While I do not engage in any of these actions, I wanted to know if it was true that Dynadot might shut down a website for content it finds disagreeable even if it is not hosted on Dynadot, only registered here.

I have heard of hosts doing this, of course, but never heard of a registrar taking issue with site content.

Can someone please elaborate on this?

Very respectfully,

S

Yes, we have shut down domains either temporarily or permanently due to complaints.  In the former situation, we may just ask a customer to transfer the domain away.

We don't shut down domains for simple complaints, you'd have to be more specific about what type of complaints you are referring to.  We get many complaints on a weekly, some that, after investigation, are without merit and simply dismissed.  We don't typically inform the Registrant about those issues.

If it is a copyright complaint, we ask the customer to remove the copyrighted material first.  The domain would only be disabled, temporarily, if the Registrant doesn't remove the material.

Our spam policy is stated below:

What is your Spam Policy?

Dynadot does not allow its services to be used for the transmission of spam. If we receive any complaints about your domain being used to send spam, we will promptly start an investigation. First, you will receive an email warning from us notifying you that we have received a spam complaint for your domain(s), and asking you to stop sending spam.

If you choose to ignore our warning and continue to send spam, we will deactivate your domain or disable your entire Dynadot account (depending on the severity of the situation). You will no longer be able to control the name servers for your domain(s), and instead an error page will appear in its place. You will not receive a refund or an account credit.

To report a domain that has sent spam, please submit a spam complaint.

From Help Section: Domains > What is your Spam Policy?

A domain would only be suspended after repeatedly violating our Spam Policy and we'd typically just ask the customer to transfer away.

Malware and Phishing complaints, are by their nature, security threats.  So those domains are disabled immediately to protect the public.
