Photo ID Verification

I am a new dynadot customer, today I registered my first domains and paid with my Paypal verified account. After operations completed and registering confirmations, I received a notification and request from dynadot to send a photo id. All my data is clear and I don't understand it, maybe for living in South America?. I'll send it tomorrow morning by fax, it's easy, but my post is to know if some other request may appear later. I came to dynadot by very well recommended people, well again my data is clear and true as all my accounts (name, email, paypal, etc.). I hope everything be completed ok, and continue working ok, thank you.

For the record, I received a reply by e-mail. My payment was refunded and the domain made available.

Thanks to Dynadot for the prompt response.

I just completed registration and received this photo ID verification request as well. I'm not at all comfortable with providing photo ID to Dynadot. I have no basis for faith in Dynadot's system or network security, and will not place a copy of my personal ID in their hands. 8 million customer records were recently stolen from Best Western, a large multinational chain with a huge interest in protecting customers' personal data. Why should I believe Dynadot is safer with even more of my details?

It's not clear to me how this procedure is for my protection, and I don't see where in the application materials I was notified that this step would come after registration and would subject me to cancellation of my order.

Good and well; the terms of service arguably allow Dynadot to cancel my service at will (and I haven't the resources to argue it). But the terms of service also do not require Dynadot to refund my money or to release my domain for assignment to another registrar.

My question is: when I refuse to provide photo ID, will Dynadot take the high road and refund my payment and release the domain, or have I been scammed?

Thanks.

We sometimes ask for verification on order.  As mentioned above, you'll only have to complete the verification process once.  The verification process helps keeps fraud down for us and in turn, prices down for our customers.

pftdd:  We have received your documents and your account has been verified.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Hello,

The verification of your photo ID is for your own protection and is only for the first time. Think if you have forgotten both your Date of birth (which is used to unlock the locked domains and off course this is also for your own security) and your secret Answer of your secret question (Used to reset your Date of birth), In this condition Dynadot will require you to send your Photo ID/Passport so that they can verify your identity, it seems cruel to anyone but this is for your own safety.

Regards
Mashahood Nizamani
