I received an email from Dynadot asking me to verify my phone number, or call their 1-800 number if I was unable to do so. The email said if I didn't respond within 2 days, they reserved the right to cancel my domain name(s). I didn't check my email box attached to Dynadot until at least 4 days after their email was sent.
At this point I still haven't done anything and it's been about 2 weeks now. I don't have a problem verifying the number, but I had forgotten about it over a number of days. Should I still respond to the request?
That was easy enough indeed. It's good to know I'm not the only one who got the phone number email. The security checking is a bit weird, but I'd rather Dynadot be too secure than careless. Sorry to hear about complaints from the other customer. So far I've been satisfied with the service. I particularly appreciate the grace deletion period!
I got a phone number verification request about a week ago and followed the instructions and did the verification. It's very easy and painless. I'd recommend you go ahead and do the phone verification too. Once it's on file that you did the verification they shouldn't ever ask for verification again.
I must admit I wasn't too happy with the threat that the email contained though ... reserve the right to cancel my domains if I don't do the phone verification within 2 days. All I was doing was adding privacy to a domain I transferred from Yahoo. What if I hadn't read my emails within the allotted 2 days? Would my domains go poof? So I emailed Dynadot and expressed my thoughts on their threatening email and they responded within 24 hours. They explained that their system sometimes sends out these verification emails automatically and had I not responded to the phone verification they would have looked into it and they would not have deleted my domains. All in all their response was friendly, personal and informative ... unlike the support that most companies offer these days.
Given a choice though I would have preferred they did whatever verifications they need when I created an account with them rather than sending out verification emails at random times.
I can't understand why Dynadot gets so much praise in the first place. I moved my domains here from Godaddy hoping to find a registrar that had their act together, and I'm really disappointed at this point. For all the negativity that Godaddy receives, they still offer a better service. I've had calls unreturned, emails unanswered. And I know they've received them after verifying it on the phone a day or two later. No courtesy email follow up from them, I'm left scratching my head wondering if they've even gotten my request. Everyone here is already aware of the site being down so often. No 24 hour phone service like my old registrar, Paypal payments go for days unprocessed. It seems that there's a glitch or a hangup at every turn. DNS failures, redirect failures, and a most importantly a sense that they're not interested in making simple changes to this site to make their interfaces and services more useful. My general impression is that nearly everything offered here is being propped up with sticks and duct tape.
Yea, I hate the crap out of Bob Parsons and his ego. But I do admit that his business works and does so like a slick machine. I can see another domain move coming soon.
