Only one IP per DNS and no more features such as round robins
10/21/2006 15:29
I am in the process of making a large community gaming IRC and maybe a web page in the future. Because are servers are low specs and running other services we have to put a max user of like 100 and link them but we can only have a single IP under the DNS and not multiple server IP’s and round robins like other domains allow. Even the free host no-ip offer round robins etc. This is a bit of a joke and it kind of ruins my planes, are you going to add this?

Currently, the option is not available to use MX records and a different name server setting like forwarding or web hosting. And we do not have a dynamic DNS option, but I will add those suggestions to our feature request list.

Is is possible to split the DNS options from the MX records in the Dynadot DNS configuration box because I wish to use the MX records and not the DNS?

And also make available a dns client to keep up-to-date the IP for people using dhcp.

Dear d_w_orpington_gb:

. Could you please elaborate on why you think no-ip.com is a bum domain provider. Is it just their $15 price tag, or is it something else?

. Also, what do you think of no-ip.com's DNS services? I'm thinking about giving them a try.

Thanks,
Chuckster

I think your suggestion is a good idea. I have added it to our feature request database.

It may take a few months before we implement the change. After starting these forums last month we have gotten lots of feature requests, and our engineers are a little backlogged right now.

Thank you for your feedback.

I think you are referring to the ip addresses for registered name servers. Currently we only allow one ip address per registered server.

If you are doing load balancing, could you just create lots of name servers? For example, ns1.mydomain.com, ns2.mydomain.com, ..., ns10.mydomain.com.

Technically it is possible to set more than one ip address for each registered name server. We just never added support for it because nobody has asked for it until now.
