Marketplace outages
9/24/2008 21:11
You guys really need to address and fix the frequent marketplace outages! A few minutes ago I went to up my bid shortly before the expired auction closed, and guess what happened? The site went down just at the crucial moment, so I lost the auction. :(

And this isn't the first time this has happened (to me). Maybe your servers can't handle the (last minute) bidding action and traffic ... maybe someone is slamming and overloading your servers on purpose at the last minute (to prevent others from upping their bids). Who knows (your server logs should be able to tell you).

But whatever the reason, it needs to be fixed if you want to be considered as a serious domain auction alternative.

Maybe you should implement the same feature they have at TDNAM - any bids during the last 2 minutes will automatically extend the extend the auction by another 2.

I was going to bid on a domain a few minutes ago on the expired domain auction.  I clicked and where it usually sends me to a bid screen, it sent me to the "Welcome to the Domain Marketplace" screen.  It did this over and over each time I clicked until the auction was over.   The domain was an arabic IDN with one bidder on it.  Basically I was locked out of bidding on it.   What happened?

We are working on resolving our site outages.

However, I will add your suggestion about a 2 minute "overtime" to our request list.

Believe it or not, I know how it works, I've been using Dynadot for a long time (I have about 30 domains here), and the internet for even longer. :)

The site went down - wasn't working for a few minutes. I even looked at it through an external, 3rd-party, proxy to make sure it wasn't just my connection - there was no Dynadot website for a few minutes. Like an outage, or server crash, or when there is a DoS attack. Nothing, zip, nada!

That lets me to believe that either the Dynadot servers cannot cope with a rush of bids at the last time, or someone is purposely taking them down in the crucial last minutes before an auction close, to eliminate other possible bids. Sounds far-fetched? Not really - if you're the high bidder on a nice domain and do not want anyone else to bid at the last minute, just make sure they can't! Gettit?

Whatever the cause, this needs to be fixed if Dynadot wants to run fair auctions.

BTW I'm not making this up or imagining it, there has been other (connection/loading/speed, etc.) problems with the Dynadot website lately - just browse through the forum.

What deo you mean the site went down :
You were automatticaly signed out and had to relogin to
bid (that happens sometimes with me),
OR
dynadot down for maintenance ?
OR
Something else ?
