Dear xxxxx xxxxx,

To minimize fraud, sometimes we ask our customers to verify their identity. Please send us a copy of your photo ID.

1. Send by fax: +1-415-869-2893 (secure)
2. Send by email attachment: [email protected] (not secure)

If we do not receive this within 2 days, we reserve the right to cancel your domain name or web hosting.

Best Regards,
Dynadot Staff

Hallo,

1. Sending this on Friday (evening) and giving 2 days to response ? I dont know are you working on weekend, but me not really.

2. This isnt really secure, if i want and if i were bad,
there is simple way to send you "some" wrong id (because both way data is transfered digital)

3. So if i cant (holiday or whatever) send you this in two days, you are going to delete my domains ? Nice very very nice. Thank you.
I feel so good/secure here with my domains.

4. If you really want to detect fraud, get some random amount from my CC and ask me what it was.

thanks

I once used a service provider (OK, their name starts with 'Y' and ends with '!') that did that - they added a random amount of US cents to my credit card and asked me what it was. Too bad my cc is in Australian dollars and I had no idea what the currency exchange rate was for that day! That was very frustrating and I hope Dynadot never implements such a policy!!

Sorry for the inconvenience. It is a one time verification that we do. Keeping fraud low is one of the ways we keep prices down.

I think they do work on weekends and if not they will not consider those two days in it.

Yes they both do transfer digitally the reasons for email to be insecure are worms and other data theft programs which may expose your confidential data to be viewed by some unauthorized persons, while using Fax the chance for unauthorized access is much lesser then through Email (Though it isn't 100% secure and I believe Nothing in this world is 100% secure)

No they will not delete your domain(and of course will not register the domain until verification is not done and you are not charged :D )

4. If you really want to detect fraud, get some random amount from my CC and ask me what it was.

They don't have access to your bank statement or things like that, they can just ask there Credit Card Processing company to charge

Once i also got in this problem while paying my hosting fees, the reason I was asked by them was my Internet connection.... My ISP's IP Addresses were of Hong kong and I was using Internet from Pakistan (I did checked they were registered for Pakistan but for some unknown reasons google also opened the .hk search), my hosting provider asked me to send the documents through Fax and after verification of my identity I am never asked again
