Email forwarding issues the past several days -- delays of HOURS
9/26/2008 10:11
If I send two test emails, one directly to my email address, and the other to my domain name, using forwarding through Dynadot, the direct email arrives seconds later, but the one forwarded through Dynadot takes HOURS.

Case in point:  message send this morning at 11:20am eastern time STILL has not arrived!!!  (It is now 1:10pm eastern.)

I have been experiencing these delays for several days, and am really getting annoyed.

What is going on???

Thanks,
Dave

Thank you everyone for your feedback.

We are modifying our email forwarding service to block customers that send thousands of email forwards per day. That is abuse of our forwarding service, and slows down forwarding for everyone else.

"We have ordered faster hardware..."

At the risk of being presumptive: you did not anticipate the growth?  Is anyone there doing forecasts of growth?  Is anyone doing studies of the present systems vs. usage and the forecast growth?  If so, perhaps you need to hire people who are better at doing those sorts of things.  I'm sure you know that mismanagement of growth is one of the biggest reasons small companies fail. Your comment that you are ordering faster hardware tells me your company is in a "reactive" mode.  That's bad news.

I'm still experiencing 2 1/2 hour delays on email forwarding.  I'm a very small user, and I understand this is a free service as part of maintaining domains at Dynadot, but this is a big problem because it undermines the level of favor Dynadot has built over the past several years.  Are your "big users" experiencing hours of email forwarding delay as well?  I'm quite surprised I have not read more complaints about this.  It's been a good part of the week that this has been going on (I've sent test emails once a day to check.)

At the risk of being even more presumptive: if free email forwarding is being abused, you could perhaps institute a nominal per-customer fee to help weed out the abusers.  $1 per month per customer (not per domain) would still be "almost free" vs. some other services.

Thus far, the reviews on the web of Dynadot are very good.  With the present problems, it will not take long for that to change.  Losing customer trust is very easy.  Gaining it back is very difficult.

Good luck.

Looks like there is a backlog of emails waiting to be forwarded. There are a couple of reasons. First is that we have been growing fast. Second is that some customers are abusing our email forwarding service.

We have ordered faster hardware, and are dealing with the abuse as well. Sorry for the problems.

Thanks, but I have no need to contact the BBB.  I paid for, and thus own, my domains and will simply take them with me.

And anyone considering Dynadot can read these forums to form their own opinions.

I think the best way to express an ill-opinion of a company is to fire them, i.e. take your business elsewhere.  I'll be doing that.

Eventually, the company will lose enough people that they will either correct their ways, or go out of business.

Still no response from Dynadot staff???

Anyone having email delays with Dynadot, please reply to this email.

I will be moving my domains.

It's not acceptable to have several days of these outages, several times per year.

There is no warning, either.  Emails just get hours of delay.  Totally unacceptable, especially--ESPECIALLY--the lack of concern by the company.

Used to be a good Co.  Not sure what happened.  Guess they could not handle the growth.

DEAR DYNADOT.  PLEASE READ WHAT I HAVE WRITTEN TO BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU.

BBB CASE#: 57129096

This company Dynadot is very unprofessional. I have 28 domain names with them. I have spent several hundred dollars with them. They are not keeping up with their increase of business which is causing our emails to not work or be delayed for several hours.

But they keep advertisting that they provide high-quality email and keep taking our money. Which is unacceptable.

When I contacted them they increased the abuse. First they tried to deny the problem. Then when I sent them proof they admitted to half the problem.

However not once did they apologize or give a respectable explanation.

In Dynadot's own words they told me"

" we have a problem"

That is it. No explanation, no apology. And now they are ignoring me after they took my money.

That borders on fraud and criminal activity. Never give them your business. Companies like Name.com will treat you better and offer you better Customer Service.
