DynaDot support is slipping
11/1/2010 20:44
Guys, I've gone through a bunch of nasty experiences with DynaDot support in the last year or so.  It's not like what I'd appreciated in previous years.

For one thing turnaround time is now very slow -- almost as though responses are delayed until they are precisely 24 hours after the query.

For another thing, the "support" responses now tend to be off point and generally useless.  As though they were merely a delaying tactic to get another 24 hours to hope the problem goes away on its own.

I don't have much cause to contact customer support.  Perhaps three times a year.  But the most recent contact was particularly nasty and follows the trend started months ago.

I ordered a SSL certificate for a domain I manage and register with Dynadot.  After nearly three days (it was a weekend) I get an email saying that Dynadot had made up six fictitious email addresses.  In order to receive the SSL authorization I paid for we would have to:
 A. Install a mail server
 B. Create one of the mailboxes Dynadot conjured up
 C. Leave the server on 24/7 until Dynadot gets around to sending the certificate.

Dynadot refused to send the certificate to:
 1. the WhoIs contact address for the target domain; or,
 2. the domain owner's registered email address; or,
3  the domain contact listed in the SSL application; or,
 4. the registered domain's technical contact.

That's pretty harsh, don't you think?  Particularly since Dynadot is the domain's registrar and has all this information at its fingertips.

And not at all the fair positive attitude to customer relations that made Dynadot such a stand-out in previous years.

Dynadot should not further squander its legacy.

We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

To clarify, we do not have control over which e-mail addresses are used in this case;  the SSL provider does.  If the SSL provider is unable to use the e-mail address provided in the Who-Is information, they use default addresses based on the domain (such as [email protected]).

We have contacted you in regards to this issue via e-mail and we hope that this matter has been resolved.  Please let us know if there is anything else we can do to help.

Best Regards,

Dynadot Staff
