It is a free web hosting service. One of my users posted a phishing page on it. Dynadot has disabled the domain without even warning me.
Some time later they did send a letter to me, which said that the domain will be re-enabled once the offending page is removed. I immediately found and deleted the page and asked Dynadot to re-enable the domain.
It happened 3 days ago already. Since that the domain is still disabled, Dynadot’s staff is not replying to my emails, and my website is not working. I can't even transfer my domain to another registrar.
Hosting accounts get breached for various reasons. Blaming it purely on users is unacceptable. Besides,we're STILL waiting for a reply to THREE mails sent to Dynadot about a similar issue. Site already up and running again with a domain alias, NO phishing present anymore, site PROPERLY cleaned and secured, and YET Dynadot has not bothered to reply to our mails or attended to our request to re-enable the domain. So this user was SPOT on for complaining about Dynadot's lack of service/communications, and it's STILL true, years after the fact. Talk to the online chat guys, and all we get is "Sorry, we can't fix it", and "Sorry, please mail them during office hours". Well, we've done that, and we're at the point of filing formal complaints against Dynadot. What you're doing is not purely preventative measures, it borders on domain hijacking and theft. And you're abusing your "Terms of service" in the process, because WE as customers do our BEST to stick to our end of the bargain, while Dynadot takes DAYS to respond, apparently. If we're lucky enough to GET a response. We've learned from all this, we're MOVING our domains away from Dynadot. ALL of them.
We disable phishing domains immediately. We do that in order to protect innocent internet users from having their account information stolen.
Unfortunately, by the time he removed the phishing page, we were already closed for the weekend.
Since the customer is using a service that is likely to be abused, it would be to his benefit to more closely monitor what his users are doing to prevent this from happening in the future. He could also try adding a contact page so that complaints could be funneled directly to him, rather than to the hosting company/registrar.
silly answer m_h_normanton_gb, what if one of your sites gets hacked and phishing pages uploaded? its a question of support and response, just that :-) i see the site is up and looks like a nice service.. too bad it was and probably will be abused
