Change needed on .WS transfer rule
10/3/2008 10:33
I've noticed the following information in Dynadot's FAQ concerning possible issues with transferring domains to another registrar:

"Can I transfer my domain from Dynadot to a different domain registrar?

Yes, you can transfer your domains to another domain registrar. There is no fee or penalty to do this, however, there are some restrictions:

   * Domains that have expired cannot be transferred. You must renew them through us first.
   * Domains less than 60 days old cannot be transferred. This is a rule enforced by the central registries.
   * The .WS (WebSite) registry does not allow transfers, so you cannot transfer a WS domain to or from us."

To check on this tidbit of misinformation, I called GDI today (760-603-3000), and asked if this was true. After a long delay on hold, I was told that this might have been true 6 months ago, but is in fact no longer enforced.

I urge Dynadot to change their FAQ and related policies to reflect this change on behalf of myself and any other customers who currently have .WS domains registered here. There's no point in continuing this restriction if it has truly been lifted by GDI.

You can transfer .WS domains away from Dynadot.  You only need to unlock the domain as there is no transfer code.  You can then begin the transfer process at the new Registrar.
