I'm a long time Dynadot user but now I need a Registrar who can reassign dot addresses to my ns1 and ns2 name servers.
As much as I like DynaDot for domains, they seem unable to change the dot addresses for nameservers. That can be something of a problem when one changes servers, so I'm hoping someone here can point me to a Registrar able to handle the nameserver registrations.
My scheme worked, I was able to create a new temporary nameserver at DynaDot and assign it the correct IP addresses. I then assigned domains to the new nameserver instead of the old one.
When I had no domains in my account that used the old nameserver, DynaDot allowed me to check the erstwhile nameserver for deletion.
Alas when I hit the "Delete" button, DynaDot refused to delete the erstwhile nameserver saying: "Could not remove name servers: A domain outside your account is using the name server 'ns1.xxxxxx.com'. It can not be deleted."
How cool is that? No domains in my account or on the target server use the nameserver yet DynaDot concludes that somewhere in the universe some unknown domain is snuggling up to the old nameserver.
So I transferred the old nameserver domain to Internet.bs and used the new Registrar to set it up as a nameserver with the correct IP addresses. I then reset my domains registered at DynaDot to use the former nameserver that now points to the correct IP address (but is no longer registered with DynaDot). That worked flawlessly.
But here's where you gotta love DynaDot. Now I can't delete the temporary nameserver!
The reason? "Could not remove name servers: A domain outside your account is using the name server 'ns1.xxxxxx.com'. It can not be deleted."
Considering that I only assigned the temporary nameserver to domains in my DynaDot account for about three hours this is indeed remarkable.
So, take heart, there is a way to change a nameserver IP with DynaDot. It's not easy and you may have some garbage left over in your nameserver list.

I managed to solve the problem of not being able to edit a nameserver IP address at DynaDot by a very convoluted scheme.
The scheme involves creating an alternate nameserver with the new IP addresses and then, when DynaDot won't allow you to delete the old nameserver saying it's in use elsewhere (beats me where this "elsewhere" is), transferring the old nameserver domain away (I used Internet.bs -- clunky user interface but it gets the job done at a reasonable fee).
I figure once the erstwhile nameserver domain is transferred out of DynaDot's clutches I can reestablish the domain as the nameserver -- but keep it registered outside DynaDot in case I need to change the associated IP address.
BTW the nameserver IP address propagated within minutes when I set up the alternate name server. So DynaDot can make nameserver IP changes; they just have problems with their nameserver management software -- a scary thought actually.
The next hurdle will be to see if DynaDot releases my nameserver domain for the transfer to another Registrar or drags out the process to discourage this sort of solution.
