So Dynadot decided to went after the money dropcatchers make and is now doing their auctions and pocking yourself the money they used to make?
Just one simple question (don't know why I bother, but ok) - The API will never beat any backorder, right? If it does, you grab it for yourselves of course, lol!
So, there's no need for API keys anymore, and thus no need to pay extra on Dynadot. Moving all my names to Godaddy.
Backorders are placed prior to our catching the name. We do not catch domains and then auction them. You place a backorder, we attempt to catch it, that is how it works. If you'll notice in our Pending Delete auctions, these are all names that have yet to drop, not names that have recently dropped.
"We only backorder domains that were requested by our customers. Dynadot does NOT have a domain portfolio and we have NO interest in building one. Your accusations are unfounded."
You misunderstood me. I meant when the API gets a name, you keep it to yourselves, and auction it next on the backorder system. You don't hand it for free to the person who was using the API, right?
Or, as I said before, the API will never beat any backorder, as the backorder system itself uses the same API! So it would make no sense to hand a domain for free when Dynadot itself can pocket a load of money auctioning it: the money drop catchers used to make! That's my point only.
We only backorder domains that were requested by our customers. Dynadot does NOT have a domain portfolio and we have NO interest in building one. Your accusations are unfounded.
"The backordering system works on the same API, so the answer to that question is, no, that is not correct. Many of our customers are still using our API to catch dropping domains."
Sure, that's why I used to get 90% of the names I was after and since the backorder system: 0%. IT'S OBVIOUS YOU'RE KEEPING THE NAMES TO YOURSELF! Why wouldn't you, if you have a backorder system? Why would you play against yourself?
"GoDaddy also has a backordering system."
Exactly, that's why I'll be moving to Godaddy. They also have a backorder system but their prices are much better. Moved once all my domains from Domainsite, so I will do it again and again, where the prices are better.
I also have been talking to other drop catchers and they will also do the same as the best thing Dynadot had is gone: their API.
Good luck on profiting from the difference between the new money that will enter from the backordering auctions less the money you will loose from registration fees.
For some reason you didn't announce this new feature. You knew it would be polemic, to say the least.
