The problem has been reported to Dynadot support yesterday, not yet a reply, but since I experienced it again today, I would like to share it here, so that other people having the same problem might share their own experience.
Basically, I am having an erratic behaviour of the system when placing a bid on expired domain auctions (I have been using it for months, so I know how it works, it is only for the past 24 hours or so the problem has started, I bought previously a number of domains without any problem).
I can place a bid if I am the only bidder. Or outbid somebody. But once this is done, my next bid is not recorded. Actually, it is very tricky: I get the next window telling me my bid has been successful, but when I check the auction then, my bid has just not been recorded, the previous highest bid is still showing. I can repeat the process several times, no way. I have also attempted to do it in several browsers - same problem.
Did anybody else experience the problem? It is hard for me to believe I am the only one, and I would suggest that Dynadot should suspend the auctions as long the problem is not solved.
Thank you for acknowledging the issue -and for fixing it.
Since the problem was fixed past 2 a.m. my time, I was already in bed and lost a second auction which concluded during the night (European time) due to the impossibility of placing as higher bid. But such things happen.
Yes, I understand that staff is limited on week-ends, this is normal. The problem is to know how to deal with a serious technical issue in case it happens on week-ends and holidays.
Thank you very much alerting us of this issue. We have fixed this problem. Please let us know if you are still having problems submitting bids on our system.
Ti make it clear again: I can post one bid against a higher bidder. But then, once the other bidder goes higher again and is above my highest bid, I am unable to place a new bid in order to go above his/her latest bid.
Similarly, I am able to place the first bid in an auction, But then, once another person has placed a bid and is above mine, I cannot place a new bid in order to take the lead again.
Despite getting each time the window "Your bid has been successful"...
I know what a proxy bidding system is: I have used the marketplace nearly every week. This has nothing to do with the proxy bidding. There IS another bidder, and there WAS one on the auction I attempted to get two days, but I was not able to complete it, because the system would refuse my higher bid.
It happens this way: somebody had bid 11.25. I bid 12.25. I am outbid. The auction reaches 14.25. I attempt to enter a new bid for 15.25: I get the message "Your bid has been successful", then I continue to the auction page... and my new proxy bid has NOT been entered. This means I am unable to go higher.
Since Saturday, I have submitted FOUR support requests directly to support, regarding two instances. I have asked support to check the logs (quoting which domain names I was bidding on, and failed to place a higher bid due to the system bug). I have received NO reply from support. Due to that bug, I lost one auction on Saturday evening: I attempted ten times to enter a higher bid, but despite seeing the successful bid message each time after placing my bid, it was not entered when I checked the auction page. I am about to lose another bid tonight, because I am unable to place a higher bid, the system just ignores the bids I enter.
What is shocking is not that there is a bug in the system (there IS one, at least on my account - I tried with several browsers, on two computers at two different locations). What is shocking is that after 48 hours, a customer who has moved dozens of domain names to Dynadot over the past few weeks does not receive any reply from support, except that one on the forum where obviously I cannot provide details such as names I am bidding on.
Once again, please, read my messages, check your logs - and you should find a trace of my attempts to bid.
Really sorry to see that: I like Dynadot, I am willing to forgive a lot (technical bugs, etc.). But I expect support to take an issue seriously - I think it is actually the first time I write to support.
Thank you for informing us of this issue. We have recently introduced a proxy bidding system for our auctions. If you are the only bidder for an auction, placing more bids will not increase the auction's highest bid price. The subsequent bids you are placing are your new proxy bids for the auction. However, if there is no one else bidding on the domain, then there is no reason to increase the current bid price since it is a proxy bidding system.
If you are having any further problems with our system please let us know. Thank you.
