Why is TTL set to 72 hours?
8/29/2007 00:39
When I check the MX-record of my domain using www.mxtoolbox.com, I notice that the TTL is set to 72 hours (259200 sec).

Why is it set so long, as others set this to 1 hour (3600 sec).

Whenever I make an update to my domains, this results in very long wait times?

Users can not modify the TTL. The only alternative is to use an alternate DNS service.

Thanks for the response. You are correct, it is 4 hours, my mistake. How can we change this to 1 hour?

If you are using Dynadot DNS, the TTL is set to 4 hours or less. We didn't find any domains in your account to look for any problems. If you have another Dynadot account with domains, please make sure your domains are using Dynadot DNS.

Likewise, why is the TTL on our MX records set to almost 12 DAYS... this means that if we change our MX, it doesn't expire and get updated on downstream DNS servers for over a week and a half!
